Ghaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh

Introduction

Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh is a co-educational all-Irish primary school in Knocknacarra, Galway, founded in 1993 and operating under Catholic patronage, where Irish is the language of teaching and daily school life. The school has grown significantly over the years and now educates roughly 720 pupils from junior infants to sixth class, with a strong emphasis on Irish language, culture and community involvement. A major redevelopment was completed in 2018 with the opening of a modern, purpose-built two-storey school building containing 24 classrooms, special education rooms, a library and a general-purpose hall, greatly improving facilities and capacity.

About the project

Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh worked with us to strengthen their sustainability initiatives through renewable energy. We designed and installed a 65.25 kW solar PV system tailored to meet the school’s energy needs. The system produces approximately 56,629 kWh of clean electricity each year, significantly reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. This installation delivers a substantial environmental benefit, preventing around 20,000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions annually and representing a meaningful step towards lowering the school’s overall carbon footprint.
